Merge Blast 2048 Strategy Guide: Group Sizes, Gravity and Reaching 512

Most players of Merge Blast 2048 tap whatever pair they see first. That works for the first levels, but it falls apart when the board gets crowded. This strategy guide shows how the merge math works and how to plan a few moves ahead, so you can reach 256, 512 and beyond.

If you are new, read the basic rules first. For coin tips, see the boosters guide.

The merge math in one table

When you tap a group, the tile you tapped is multiplied by the smallest power of two that is at least the size of the group.

Group sizeMultiplierExample with 16s
2x216 + 16 = 32
3 or 4x4three or four 16s = 64
5 to 8x8five to eight 16s = 128

Two things follow from this:

  • A group of 4 is no better than a group of 3. If you have exactly 3, do not wait for a fourth. If you have 4, you only gain by finding a fifth.
  • Bigger groups also clear more space. A merge of n tiles removes n minus 1 tiles from the board, so large groups are your best defence against a full board.
